The name of this organization shall
be the University of Missouri-Columbia Chapter of the American Meteorological
Society / National Weather Association. |
Article II-Objectives

| Section 1: |
The objectives of this organization
shall be:
-
To further communication among members of the local
meteorological community, especially between students and faculty at the
University.
-
To promote the profession of meteorology.
-
To better understand the processes of the atmosphere.
-
To serve and educate the public, specifically the
Mid-Missouri area.

| Section 2: |
Compliance and Discrimination
-
The organization will comply with all federal, state,
and local laws as well as with all University policies.
-
The organization shall not discriminate.

Article III-Membership

| Section 1: |
Membership is open to anyone with
an interest in meteorology and its related fields in the mid-Missouri area. |
| Section 2: |
Active membership shall be retained
by the payment of dues at the beginning of each academic year of the University
of Missouri. |
Article IV-Committees

| Section 1: |
The executive committee shall be the
governing body of the chapter. It shall consist of the President, Vice-President,
Secretary, Treasurer, School of Natural Resources Student Council Representative,
College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources Student Council Representative,
and Activities Chair. |
| Section 2: |
Standing committees will be delegated
certain responsibilities for ongoing activities that the chapter participates
in. These are the Calendar Committee, the University of Missouri-Columbia
Storm Chasers, and the Education and Community Outreach Committee. Committee
chairs shall be members of the local chapter and will be nominated and
elected by the majority vote of the Executive Officers with the approval
of the faculty advisor. |
| Section 3: |
Ad-Hoc committees may be created to
attend to temporary matters that may come up. Ad-Hoc committees may be
proposed by any member, and any member may be a committee chair with the
majority vote of the Executive Officers. The Executive Officers will determine
a specific goal that the committee is to achieve and will allot a specific
amount of time that the goal is achieved. |
Article V - Executive Officers

| Section 1: |
All Executive Officers shall be students
of the University of Missouri-Columbia and shall have been enrolled in
the University for at least one semester. All executive officers must maintain
a grade point average of at least 2.00 and maintain it while in office. |
| Section 2: |
Executive Officers are to be elected
at the final meeting of each academic year and shall serve as officers
from immediately upon their election until the next years election. Executive
Officers are elected by a one-half majority vote of the active membership.
Voting will occur for a one week period from the day of the final meeting. |
Article VI- Executive Powers and Duties

1: |
The President is responsible for all
local chapter meeting, activities, and other functions. The President may
delegate responsibilities to other Officers and members, but is responsible
for the well-being of the chapter. Presidential duties and responsibilities
include:

Preside as chair at all Executive and Chapter meetings.

Act as the representative of the chapter before other
groups. The President may delegate this responsibility to another Executive
Officer or member.
-
Know other Executive Officer's duties in order to
assist in the coordination of organization activities.
-
Contact individuals that the chapter wishes to invite
as a guest speaker at chapter meetings.
-
Document and record all activities and major decisions
in the President's Notebook which is to be given to the next elected President.

2: |
The Vice-President is responsible
for assisting the President in any duties that he/she needs assistance.
Vice-Presidential duties and responsibilities include:

Perform the duties of the President in the President's
absence.
-
Make arrangements for speakers and special guests
of the local chapter.
-
Attend to any special needs of Standing and Ad-Hoc
Committees.
-
Document and record all activities and major decisions
in the Vice President's Notebook which is to be given to the next elected
Vice President.

The Secretary is responsible for documenting
the activities of the club. The Secretarial duties and responsibilities
include:

Record accurate minutes of Executive and Chapter
meetings.
-
Create a list of all active members of the chapter
and distribute list to all members by electronic mail.
-
Send members a copy of the minutes from Chapter Meetings
as well as information on chapter activities via e-mail.
-
Inform A022 Brady Commons and the National AMS Office
of the election of new officers.
-
Submit reports of chapter activities to the National
AMS through the President.
-
Serves as Chair at meetings in the absence of the
President and Vice-President.
-
Document and record all activities in the Secretary's
Notebook which is to be given to the next elected Secretary.

4: |
The Treasurer is responsible for the
financial well-being of the chapter. The Treasurer's duties and responsibilities
include:

Keep a complete record of the chapter's expenses.
-
Authorize chapter expenditure's with the approval
of the Executive Officers.
-
Plan a yearly budget with the assistance of the Faculty
Advisor and the other Executive Officers.
-
Give financial reports at each Executive and Chapter
meeting.
-
Serves as Chair at meetings in the absence of the
President, VicePresident, and Secretary.
-
Document and record all activities in the Treasurer's
Notebook which is to be given to the next elected Treasurer.

The School of Natural Resources Student
Council Representative acts as the liaison between the chapter and the
University of Missouri-Columbia School of Natural Resources. The Representative's
duties include:

Attend School of Natural Resources Student Council
meetings.
-
Communicate activities of chapter to the Student
Council and act on the behalf of the chapter at Student Council meetings.
-
Report activities and upcoming events of the School
of Natural Resources to the chapter's members.
-
Document and record all activities in the Representative's
Notebook which is to be given to the next elected Representative.

6: |
The Activities Chair is responsible
for registering all University Intramural Sports teams with the Intramural
Office. Responsibilities of the Activities Chair include:

Posting sign-up sheet for the various intramural
sports.

Keep members informed of times and dates of upcoming
intramural sports events.
-
Organize sports teams or delegate another member
to do so.
-
Ensure that the Treasurer pays any intramural fees.
-
Organize fundraising activities.

The College of Agriculture, Food,
and Natural Resources Student Council Representative acts as the liaison
between the chapter and the University of Missouri-Columbia College of
Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources. The Representative's duties include:

Attend College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural
Resources Student Council meetings.
-
Communicate activities of chapter to the Student
Council and act on the behalf of the chapter at Student Council meetings.
-
Report activities and upcoming events of the College
of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources to the chapter's members.
-
Document and record all activities in the Representative's
Notebook which is to be given to the next elected Representative.
