Key Messages
- Showers persist overnight Monday , trailing off into the early hours of Tuesday morning.
- High temperatures Tuesday through Thursday will be slightly below average(<75°F).
- Sunshine returns briefly on Wednesday before clouds move back in for the rest of the week.
Currently, the trough of low pressure that sponsored nearly 3 inches of rain over the weekend is moving off to the east, taking with it most of the rain chances for our area. Clouds will , however, stick around for most of the week as several disturbances move across the region.
Through early Wednesday morning an upper level, positively tilted trough will deepen over the midwest with its axis centered directly over Missouri. This low will become detached from the overall upper level flow by 18z on Wednesday and gradually drift southwest over the next few days until it begins to interact with the incoming tropical system.
Mid-level moisture (at 700mb) will continue to move with the departing surface low until it is absorbed by a deepening upper level low by 18z on Wednesday, until then our forecast will consist of low clouds and autumn-like temperatures (65-75°F). Wednesday will mark a brief lull in active weather, with chances of sunshine during the day as the previous band of clouds move out and before more moisture is pulled into the area by the cut off low ahead of the incoming tropical system that is expected to form in the Gulf of Mexico by Tuesday afternoon.
Future forecast shifts should keep an eye on the significant vorticity associated with the cut off low and the tropical system predicted to make landfall on Thursday.
