Technical Discussion:

Key Messages:

  • There will be summer-like conditions for Friday and Saturday.
  • A strong cold front will move through the region on Sunday regulating temperatures.

Technical discussion:

Summer will just not let this relationship go and it’s starting to get toxic. A mid-level ridge is currently meandering over the forecast area advecting warm air in from the gulf contributing to temperatures (80s) that are above average for this time of year (70s). However, with how dry conditions have been as of late, clouds will remain out of our skies allowing for plenty of insolation. As the weekend progresses however, the mid-level ridge will weaken and fade away, being replaced by a low pressure system. This is the rebound the region has been looking for as we begin a new relationship with fall-like temperatures with a powerful cold front through early next week. The beginning of this front passing through the region will occur early Sunday morning and colder air will be be thoroughly fixed over the area by Monday. The chance for fire weather conditions cannot be ruled out as wind speeds are approaching the threshold conditions (25mph sustained) for this to occur, but that chance is slim, as the NWS has all of Missouri and the Midwest forecasted as “no significant risk”.

As far as conditions for this weekend go, expect clear skies, warm temperatures in the morning and cooler temperatures in the evening. There is still the chance for the Aurora Borealis to be visible Friday night as conditions will remain clear. Areas of low light like Cooper’s Landing down south will be best for viewing as light pollution will be at its weakest.
