Key Messages:
- A high pressure ridge will continue to keep us quiet throughout the forecast period.
- Drought is expected to continue due to dryer conditions.
- Temperatures are expected to warm throughout the forecast period
A surface-level high-pressure ridge will keep us quiet throughout the forecast period. Winds will be light and from the southwest, bringing in warm, dry air from the desert southwest. The low-level high will maintain southerly winds, blocking any moisture from entering our area. Along with the lack of lift in the atmosphere, there will be no chance for clouds or precipitation during this period.
With the surface high off to our east and winds coming from the south, the forecast area will experience temperatures in the lower 70s. Temperatures will continue to rise throughout the week as the high remains to our east (reaching the mid-70s by Sunday), staying slightly above our average of the upper 60s. However, low temperatures will be slightly below average (near 50°F). Due to the lack of cloud cover, lows are expected to cool into the low to mid-40s throughout the weekend.
With the absence of moisture, we will continue to experience dry conditions. It will be almost a month since the last measurable rainfall, which occurred on September 24th. This has heightened concerns about drought in our area. We should also be concerned about fire weather due to the dryness of the atmosphere. However, wind speeds will not pose a substantial fire danger. The minimum wind speed for fire weather is around 25 mph, while the highest forecasted winds will be only 5-10 mph.
