Key Messages :
– The cold front passage will cool off temperatures and bring clear skies this weekend.
– Warmer temperatures could return by the end of the weekend.

Technical Discussion :
Halloween is just around the corner, but don’t let this weather scare you. We’re settling in for pleasant days and nights just before the killer, thriller night. But before that darkness falls across the land, the cold front hour is close at hand as it will begin to roll into the CWA this morning and roll right back out this afternoon bringing cold air advection with it. Expect high and low temperatures to cool off to back around average for this time of year (68°F and 47°F respectively). With it however, a mid/upper level ridge will begin to build into the region bringing with it clear skies and warmer temperatures. Cloud cover should remain at a minimum due to low mid and low-level moisture combined with weak vertical motion alongside the aforementioned ridge.

Looking toward the end of the weekend, the high pressure ridge begins to move out of our region, and an interesting looking low pressure system in the Pacific Northwest begins to make its presence known. This in turn brings the chance for clouds and weather back into the equation. Future shifts should monitor this pressure system and its potential effects for the week.

Aviation:

Low ceilings today in Columbia will help contribute to MVFR conditions this morning, more than likely transitioning back to VFR conditions as the weekend continues. As the high pressure ridge starts to move through, watch for wind shifts at 850mb and the surface which could make for more difficult conditions to maintain level flight.
