Key Messages:

  • We’ll remain dry and calm for the end of our week
  • Temperatures will remain above average throughout the weekend.
  • There will be a cold front that passes through by Sunday morning.

Currently, there is an upper level ridge that has left temperatures above average and conditions dry will continue to do so throughout Saturday. Winds will remain to our south from Friday to Saturday due to the high pressure system off to our southeast. Due to this, temperatures will continue to rise into the upper 80s by Saturday which is 14°F warmer than our average of 74°F. By Saturday afternoon, we could see wind gusts up to 20 mph, due to a tight pressure gradient from the high to our south east and the low in central Canada. Due to a lack of cloud cover, the forecast area will see overnight lows for Friday and Saturday in the lower 60s.

On Sunday 6z, there will be a trough that moves through the Northern Midwest. However, the forecast area will be at the tail-end of the trough, which will lead to cooler temperatures for Sunday. The cold front associated with the low pressure system in Canada will cross the forecast area by 15z Sunday and will keep temperatures cooler. Temperatures are expected to cool into the upper 70s for Sunday, which is closer to our average of 74°F. We are also going to remain dry throughout Sunday with dew point temperatures near 30°F.

Since the relative humidity on Sunday is around 15% after a cold front passage, that would pose a threat for fire danger. However, our winds do not meet the requirements of 25mph, as the forecast area will only see winds from 5-10mph.
