Current radar imagery places a line of showers to our west right on the Missouri-Kansas border. These showers are expected to move into our area this afternoon, weakening as they progress eastward. This is due to a much drier environment with little to no instability over central Missouri. The associated deep, neutrally tilted upper-level trough situated over the Rockies will propagate eastward today bringing ample forcing for ascent and upper level divergence. That being said, mid level guidance suggests an area of dry air fixed from the Upper Mississippi Valley south into Texas. This dry slot will cut off the richest moisture from the main upper level forcing, keeping our chance for greater than a quarter inch of rain slim, and the greatest totals in southern Illinois. After the cold front passes, abundant low level cloud cover is expected to gradually fade out to a clear and sunny sky on Friday and into the weekend. Lows will remain in the low 40s and upper 30s with highs remaining right around average in the upper 50s and low 60s, gradually warming as a high pressure dome builds in this weekend.
