Key Messages:

  1. Weekend high temperatures will be well above daily averages for mid-April.

Both the NAM and the GFS were used for this forecast. They provide similar predictions for the majority of the forecast period.

The forecast period begins with a deep trough moving out of the area. Progressing into Thursday night and Friday morning, there is a ridge building into the region. Though there is some circulation on Thursday evening, however, the atmosphere lacks sufficient moisture during this time, so Thursday night is expected to be mostly clear. Friday will be mostly sunny as the ridge continues to build into the region. Then, some low-level moisture moves in on Friday night and early Saturday morning, which will cause low-level clouds to form. This moisture will clear out as the sun rises on Saturday, and it will be mostly sunny with few mid-level clouds in the afternoon.

The forecast area will experience significant heating this weekend. There will be strong warm air advection (WAA) from Friday afternoon through the end of the forecast period, leading to high temperatures in the mid-80s, more than 20 degrees above the daily averages (low 60s).

Future forecasters should pay special attention to the heating occurring this weekend, and how it changes going into next week.
