Technical Discussion:

Key Messages:

  1. Warming trend Tuesday
  2. Brief rain chance Tuesday Night into Wednesday
  3. New system comes in Thursday

The current low pressure system across the Northern U.S. will continue to occlude and push to the northeast. This will make way for a weak high pressure system to move into the Central U.S. This high pressure, coupled with zonal flow aloft through Tuesday will lead to a slight warming trend and a clear sky tomorrow (Tuesday). This will not last long, as a weaker low pressure system will drop down into the Northern U.S. from Canada. This lower-level low will drape a cold front through Missouri Tuesday night into Wednesday morning. Since minimal moisture and vorticity are present, light right remains possible (40-50%) Tuesday night into Wednesday morning along that front. Most model plumes suggest under a quarter of an inch, while the NBM suggests lower than a tenth of an inch. Since there was minimal moisture, we have opted for less than a tench of an inch of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday. After the brief rain potential ends on Wednesday, the mid and upper levels will begin to dry out and clouds will decrease throughout the day. A third low pressure system is currently visible on satellite imagery over the Aleutian Islands. By Wednesday night, that low, will make its way through the Northern U.S. Future forecasting shifts need to monitor this new low as ingredients for rain appear to come together just after 12z Thursday.
