Key Messages:

  • Thursday continues to see seasonal temperatures
  • Cold front comes through Thursday evening into Friday morning with rain showers possible
  • Below seasonal temperatures stick around for the remainder of the forecast period

Current visible satellite imagery depicts clear sky conditions throughout the entirety of the state as a high-pressure exits the region and continues to move eastward. Clouds are expected to build into the area overnight and will keep overnight temperatures in the lower 60s. Thursday temperatures are expected to reach into the mid to upper 80s as strong southerly flow continues with partly cloudy conditions.

An upper-level ridge continues to propagate to the east as a strong trough that is prominent at all levels will force it out of the region. The main axis of the trough accommodates a strong upper-level jet streak and it will continue to surge south over the Great Lakes Region by Friday morning. As an associated surface low-pressure system will drape a cold front across central portions of the CONUS. With the cold front, forcing and moisture seem to be lacking further south. Due to these key components being lackluster, widespread storms and rain accumulation are not expected. With thunderstorms not being anticipated, localized rain showers with a few rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out. SREF and GEFS plumes hint at rain totals nearing 0.01″, however, the chances to pick up a trace remain particularly low (20-30%).

Northerly winds are expected to take over the region after the passage of the cold front. CAA can be recognized and will directly influence temperatures throughout the remainder of the forecast period. Daytime highs and lows will remain well below seasonal, with models forecasting 10 degrees below average (Avg. Low 62, Avg. High 84).
