General Discussion:

Thursday’s temperatures will rise to the mid-80s, and clear skies will remind us of summer-like conditions. Increased moisture on Friday may allow for partly-cloudy skies. Southerly winds will increase temperatures over the weekend: Saturday is expected to be hot and sunny, with a high temperature in the upper 80s

Key Messages:

  • A high pressure system near the East coast will drive southerly winds, bringing warmer temperatures and dry air.
  • A slow-moving cold front in the Central Plains of Nebraska and Iowa will struggle to make its way south by the weekend, hindering cool temperatures over Mid-Missouri.

Thursday morning saw cool temperatures and fall-like conditions, though these crisp mornings are short lived. Kentucky is host to a high-pressure system. This slow-moving high over Central Appalachia allows for winds from the south, supplementing a rise in temperature. Contrary to the excess of moisture in the east, due to Helene’s flooding, dry air from the Mid-Mississippi River Valley region climbs north, inhibiting excess clouds over Mid-Missouri. Temperatures will rise throughout the day, with high temperatures in the mid-80s (85°F). Sunny skies are expected to remain prominent through the week. Overnight, temperatures will fall to the upper 50s (58°F).

A shortwave trough travels through the upper-Midwest, attached to a weak cold front over the Central Plains of Nebraska and Iowa. Glimpses of this front tease Friday’s conditions. Partially cloudy skies over the North-Missouri area will be generated by the increase of lift from the front. The front will promote cooler temperatures in the low 80s. Slight moisture lingers overnight, for partly cloudy skies and a slightly warmer evening (62°F).

Don’t bring your flannels out just yet–Saturday’s temperatures will return to high 80’s. An upper-level ridge building over the Mississippi Valley Region will drive high temperatures, paired with the continued movement from the Bluegrass high and warm southerly winds. Sparse clouds will appear towards the afternoon as temperatures climb 10-15 degrees above average, to the upper 80s, nearing a record high (94°F in 2006).
