Key Messages:

  • Rain will be up to 1.5″ through Thursday
  • Clouds and rain will keep temperatures slightly cooler (Avg: 71 F)

A high over the Florida panhandle and a high in the Upper Midwest is causing a cold front to stall keeping significant moisture at 700mb in the Ozarks. A deep trough over the four corners region will cutoff from the upper-level stream and while that happens upper-level divergence over Missouri will occur from a jet streak over the great lakes this afternoon. Divergence will clear out when the jet max moves eastward but will return Thursday when the upper level low rejoins the stream and enters the Midwest. A small amount of vorticity is associated with this divergence on Tuesday afternoon and will linger until the upper-level low moves in early Thursday morning. This is why rain is not forecasted for Tuesday however sprinkles may occur. The primary chances will come when the low-level jet strengthens overnight Tuesday pushing moisture northward and increasing rain chances. Surface dewpoints will remain in the 60s until the end of the period further signifying the humidity and soundings showing saturation until Thursday into Friday. Cloudy conditions will keep temperatures near average (Avg: 71 F) and even warmer overnight due to insulation until rain slightly cools us off into the mid 60s. The cooling rain will be 1.5″ from early Wednesday morning until Thursday during the day based on ensemble probabilities.

Future shifts should monitor clearing Thursday and Friday which would diminish rain chances.
